Choosing between Cursor, Windsurf, and GitHub Copilot is the most common developer question of 2026. We ran all three through the same feature builds, bug hunts, and refactors on a mid-size TypeScript codebase.
Cursor felt fastest for iterative work: its Tab predictions and inline agent are remarkably in tune with intent. Windsurf handled the largest multi-file refactor most gracefully, tracking context across dozens of files. Copilot was the most consistent reviewer and the easiest to adopt since it lives inside VS Code and JetBrains with zero workflow change.
Verdict: solo developers and startups lean Cursor, teams on massive codebases should trial Windsurf, and enterprises standardize on Copilot. All three offer free tiers — test them on your own repo before paying.
